CONDO RENOVATION

Our mandate consisted of developing a minimalist design and functional spaces, which enshrined the superb view overlooking the river and the city of Montreal. The stilt flooring that creates the technical vacuum in which we have to pass the entire wiring and ducting is one of the biggest challenges we have had to face, as was the concrete ceiling that could tolerate only very recessed Thin, you have to deal with an old way of doing things, like a commercial air conditioning system, but it goes into the floor rather than into suspended ceilings, or low-voltage electricity, walls. We also had to raise the kitchen counter which was of an obsolete height and much too low for our occupants

The challenge

The challenge for the entrepreneur - and we did - was to make it comfortable and welcoming a poorly heated and poorly lit room, whose design did not include any refinements that contribute to better living of the users.

BATHROOM RENOVATION

The layout of the room did not meet the specific needs of our client. She wanted a new concept, a different configuration with a wide glass shower and a comfortable bath.

The design of the place was awarded to Ms. Luce Thibault who managed to create a bathroom that takes us off the beaten track.

The inventory

The small cabin fiberglass shower was partitioned in a corner of the room. While bathing, too bulky, occupying an ideal space for large shower. The withdrawal of this shell was the first of a series of challenges that we have faced.

The impeccable design

Since no drain only served the future location of the bath, the main innovation has been to position the bath on a priority basis and the same coating to all floors. The ceramic wall restraint is distinguished by its elegance, durability, craft process, refined color palette and aesthetic diversity. A pioneering product which is arranged perfectly with walnut wood. In addition, the wall fittings, furnishings and accessories were carefully chosen: a classic and very refined look that fits well with the residence, style and tastes of our client.

Reviving a dwelling heritage

Amateur architecture, design and the decorative arts interested in my client had just bought a unit on two levels (two "cubes") to Habitat 67 where he had lived in his youth, and gives both the city and the river. Remember, Habitat 67, designed by architect Moshe Safdie, is located at the east end of the City of Le Havre, taking long strip of land on the river during the Universal Exhibition of 1967. The building, one of the few vestiges of the exhibition was intended as a new incarnation of the family house that would be inserted harmoniously in the city instead of being scattered in the suburbs.

TERRACE

It was important in the design of the terrace, to comply with all the rules affecting the load, the sustainability of the work, safety and design.

Several challenges were awaiting us: the weight of the structure and equipment and its distribution, irrigation and land drainage, the choice of materials and light covering both non-toxic and rot, and a good balance between areas open and covered.
